The first question that comes up whenever you find a gene or disease of interest should be “Does a model of the protein structure already exist?” The way to determine this is by utilizing the public server that everyone was given access to during the workshop. By logging in then selecting “Database” you will be taken to several existing pre-compiled databases. The one that should interest the most is the one labeled “Human”. This database has several hundred human models of proteins. There are also mouse and rat databases available with complete models also. By utilizing this resource you can save yourself or your students a significant amount of time.
